Second Patient Assault At Hospital In PA, Police Say

For the second time in two days, police in Central Pennsylvania have announced an assault involving a patient at the same hospital.

John Vincent Thorson, 42, of Carlisle has been arrested for assaulting an employee at Penn State Holy Spirit Hospital located at 503 North 21st Street, Camp Hill around 11:20 p.m. on May 27, 2023, according to the East Pennsboro Police 

Thorson was a patient at the time and "the employee sustained injuries during the assault," the police said. 

He was arrested on a felony charge of aggravated assault and held in the Cumberland County Prison after failing to post $5,000 in bail, according to his latest court docket. 

He previously pleaded guilty to driving under the influence in 2004, and driving under the influence at the highest rate in 2005, according to his previous court dockets. 

Thorson's preliminary hearing has been set before Magisterial District Judge Michael Sanderson at 9;15 a.m. on June 21, 2023, his latest docket details. 

This is the second assault involving a patient at the hospital this month. On May 30, the police announced that Kelly Culbert assaulted a patient at the same hospital earlier in the month. You can read our coverage of that incident here.
